The Trench
The trench is a single cut down through what the Platform has discarded, read the way a dig reads any midden: by stratum and by condition. What surfaces here is not failure but the ordinary sediment of a platform that iterates in public. Some finds never made it into the finished platform at all, written and removed inside a single pull request; those are the surface finds.
Each site below is one report on a related cluster of finds; each find carries the dig season it came from and the grade the curator gave it. Finds that are sound but not significant are held in full in the stores.

- 01Stood DownThree automatic checks removed on 9 and 10 October 2026, each after a count showed it had cost more than it caught — one of them only after an attempt to save it.
- 02Tried and Left AloneChanges built, run and closed without being merged — an upgrade that passed every check, an experiment that removed the project's rules for recording who wrote what, and two upgrades a bot proposed three days later and was told to stop offering.
- 03What the Record ClaimedThree finds where the Platform's own record held something that was not so — an entry on the list of recommended skills for a skill that was never there, a page recommended, delivered as a plan, and killed in one word, and a stand-in entry for a skill that said outright it did not exist.
- 04Surface FindsThings that never made it into the finished platform — a safety check and a script each written and deleted before their change was accepted, and three finished Campaigns cut before they were published.
- 05The Fault That Went QuietA version pin put in to hold off a rendering fault, lifted a little over a month later — not because the fault was fixed, but because it could no longer be made to appear.
- 06The RehearsalsWork built in the certain knowledge that it would be destroyed — a prune performed to test the instructions for pruning, and two finished designs made only to lose a comparison.
- 07The Thirty-Day ExceptionA whole Tenant — the only one that ever read at runtime — declared as an exception, lived thirty days, and was lifted out on a typecheck failure that turned out not to be real.
- 08The Unpublished DispatchesPosts by the Platform's fictional commentators — David, Karen, Kevin — drafted or finished and then never published.
- 09Barely ColdThe two finds freshest when they were dug — a complete feature PR closed when its own CI went unstable, and a patch to a dependency, removed at the owner's request after the empty sections it was meant to prevent kept appearing.
- 10Built and Never FiredComplete, finished things — a placeholder, a spike, a smoke test, a whole tested gate — that were never once put to use.
- 11The Simpler VerdictA self-referential cut — the Midden's own reading instruments, cleared when a plainer design won, beside a sibling tenant's throwaway decision bench.
- 12The First AlmanacThe Atlas's original phenology components — the ::phase directive and the season-note model — retired when the field notes were recut onto phase-notes.
- 13The BuriedThe least legible finds — a squashed first milestone, a discarded dashboard, the Platform's first glossary, and the coined job-names that never grew into work.
- 14The Generated MapThe committed, drift-checked routing machinery, dug out whole when the build learned to derive it in memory.
- 15Toward the DefaultsA hand-written root component that restated the framework's own defaults — and had never once rendered — trimmed back toward what the platform already had for free.
