The Buried

Some things leave a body to catalogue. Others leave only the knowledge that they once existed, and this site is mostly for those: the finds graded lost, where nothing survives to quote and the card is a plain gravestone. They are the deepest and the faintest layer of the dig, and it is fitting that most of them are names and absences rather than files. A few here are legible enough to quote — a word kept only to prove a point, a job-name that left a faint outline — and they are graded honestly rather than flattened into the gravestones around them.

At the very floor sits the Platform's own making: the entire first milestone arrived as one squashed commit, so the exploratory work that produced the manifest foundation is simply gone, and the whole current platform stands on ground whose construction left no trace. Beside it, the self-documentation Tenant's first form — a status dashboard — was discarded on the day it was made, when the Platform decided its record should read as a narrative journal instead. From that same first day comes the Platform's first attempt to define its own words: Platform, Tenant, Space, each a routable document a reader could walk to, plus one retired term kept in the archived Space purely to prove the isolation worked. The definitions outlived the collection — the repository still keeps them, in prose — but the notion that a reader might walk to them did not. Higher up, in the ash of the spike season, lie the coined words: Spawn, a glossary verb for adding a Tenant that was never really used; and beside it a whole small taxonomy — sync, consolidate, and codify, three names given to self-improvement jobs before any of the work existed. They are catalogued as one find, because they were one act: named together in a single glossary, retired together, and never built either way. The work, when it came, took entirely different names.
