The First Almanac
The Atlas's original phenology components — the ::phase directive and the season-note model — retired when the field notes were recut onto phase-notes.
The Atlas — the Platform's illustrated field guide — needed a way to tie a specimen's prose to the turning of its year, and it built one, and then it built another, and then it threw both away for a third. This site holds the first two attempts, which died within a single day of each other in the recut layer, all belonging to one abandoned model of how a seasonal essay should work.
The earliest was ::phase, a directive that bound a passage to one of a
specimen's declared phenology phases and kept it inked for readers who never
touched the interactive dial. It was retired for a season model — an inline
season handle that swung the almanac needle when clicked, and a companion block
that showed one season's paragraph only while the needle rode that season, built
to a reader's own request for "a paragraph for each specific season." That whole
second model lasted barely longer than the first: within the same afternoon every
specimen was converted again, this time to phase-notes, and the season components
came out for good. Nothing named ::phase, Season, or ::season-note survives
in the live content. What is preserved here are the components themselves, whose
header comments still read whole even where the model beneath them is gone.

Phase.vue (::phase)
file · Phase.vueremoved in ebcd802assessed 16 Jul 2026
Sixty-five lines that kept a passage fully inked for readers who never touched the dial, fading it to pencil only once the wheel was engaged. Retired for a season model that outlived it by fifty-six minutes; the engaged flag only it read went out in the same commit. Two abandonments deep, its header comment reads whole.

Season.vue (:season)
file · Season.vueremoved in 856c264assessed 16 Jul 2026
An inline season name that swung the almanac needle to its midpoint on click, carried a miniature arc glyph and a hovercard of label, day-span and gloss, and underlined itself while the needle rode inside it. Sixty-five careful lines, degrading politely to a plain span off a specimen page, alive for a day.

SeasonNote.vue (::season-note)
file · SeasonNote.vueremoved in 856c264assessed 16 Jul 2026
Sixty-seven lines built to a reader's request for a paragraph per season: server-rendered expanded, collapsing to the needle's season only after hydration, and using v-show so hidden sightings kept their dial ticks. Added at 22:17 and removed at 23:51 the same night, when every specimen was recut onto phase-notes.
