Story
You are outside. It begins to rain. The Rain-Aware Umbrella notices, and sends a notification to your phone so that you know.
The sensor
A capacitive sensor in the tip of the umbrella detects falling water within a fraction of a second. The paired app then tells you, in plain language, that it is raining.
Why an app
Early testers reported that they could usually tell it was raining without help. They could not, however, tell it from their phone. The app closes that gap.
Shipping
The umbrella ships within Europe only. Outside Europe we cannot yet confirm that it rains in the same way.

Why the app says “It is raining”
We tested several wordings for the alert. “Rain detected” tested as cold. “You may want your umbrella” confused people who were holding it. “It is raining” was understood by everyone.
