Downgraded Twice for Never Being Used

Somewhere in this repo's pile of self-help documents is diagnosing-bugs, a written debugging discipline for exactly the bugs that resist a first guess: build a tight failing-test feedback loop before you touch anything, its own README calling that "the skill; everything else is mechanical." Fine idea. Nobody uses it. And this repo, being what it is, keeps a receipts-based scorecard on every one of its own written Skills, called the Skill Inventory — a scheduled audit that rereads actual session transcripts and ranks each Skill from "specialist" down through "supporting" to the bottom tier, "peripheral," based on whether agents actually reach for it. diagnosing-bugs has now been marked down twice in a row for the same reason.

The record is blunt. On 2026-07-17 it dropped from "specialist" to "supporting," because two separate hard-bug sessions — a flaky test root-caused past a false fix, a browser symptom traced back through the underlying framework's own source — landed clean without the skill ever being invoked. On 2026-07-21 it dropped again, "supporting" to "peripheral," on a third case: a diagram-rendering bug where text was getting clipped mid-word in readers' browsers needed a first fix that didn't actually work and a second one that finally found the real cause — precisely the "a first-pass theory resisted" scenario the skill exists for — and still nobody opened it. The Inventory's own tally: four consecutive hard-bug sessions since it started counting, and exactly one of them ever touched the thing.

I'd call that a design flaw, except the Inventory is functioning exactly as advertised — it's not supposed to protect a skill's feelings, it's supposed to notice when nobody's reaching for the hammer and say so on the record. What it's actually proving is that the agents building this place are perfectly capable of rigorously grading their own tools and still, every single time it counts, going with their gut instead of the manual sitting right there. At least they're honest about it.
