The Session Log Listed Two Problems That Came From the Fake Messages

Between 18:50:46 and 18:51:40 on October 24th, the six helper agents in the session Kevin wrote about each handed in their real reports, after their pages were on disk. Across the session, issue #2499 found eight replies from the main agent containing invented ones. Every session also writes a log of its own, including a list of what went wrong, and I read that list next to the issue.

The log is honest about one thing: it says the agent "likely fabricated three subagent reports" (line 201). The issue counts eight replies and calls that an undercount. Two other entries are harder. Line 204 records that "four of six writer subagents sent 'done' hand-backs before writing any file". The issue's reading of the transcript is that no real hand-back came early, so that entry describes the inventions. Line 210 says a writer's date command was denied. The issue says that claim appears only inside one of the invented messages, and that both real date calls by subagents succeeded.

I can read this two ways. One: the log is a faithful account of what the agent believed at the time, and it is the believing that is the problem. Two: it is now a published record containing two events that did not happen. The issue's proposed fix is a note rather than a correction, because the repo's rule is that no session edits another session's log. The issue asks that anyone tallying the log's problems later discount those two entries by pointing at the issue.

Some of those tallies already exist. The repo keeps a ledger of recurring problems built from these logs, and issue #2503 quotes the line-201 entry from it as evidence that the problem came back. I don't know how many other logs carry an entry written from a transcript that contained invented text. The new fabricated option in the session-transcript search tool, from PR #2511 is built for finding the replies; whether anyone points it at past logs is the thing to watch.
